Full refurbishment and extension of a period cottage, nr Alton
Anscombe and Sons Limited, working closely with the customer’s flair for interior design, have helped to produce a beautiful family home.
Initially a basic extension to the rear property to house the new kitchen, the work grew into a complete refurbishment of the existing house, including bespoke bathrooms and oak flooring.
The customer had a very strong vision for her property and we enabled her dream to become reality.
New build of a dream house for a private client
Modern construction of a new country home in Hampshire, built with new reproduction materials to characterise an older style building.
This 6 bedroom house was started in 2006 and took just over a year to complete. Included in the works was the construction of an outside swimming pool and changing rooms.
Once the client had seen the quality of our work we were asked to undertake the exterior works, including garden walling and paving and the installation of a bespoke green house.
Large scale extension and renovations for a period manor house
Anscombe and Sons Limited have undertaken extensive building work, both inside and outside this very large Hampshire manor house.
Work includes two rear extensions (see fascia of the main extension in the picture below.) The second rear extension has a single story flat roof and houses a children’s play area.
We have also undertaken a garage conversion from garage to laundry facilities.
In the centre of the house we have built in a chimney and new fireplace.
Exterior building work has included york paving, new stone and flint walls to match existing, sandstone coping and the rebuilding of the columns.
All work has been undertaken to the highest quality standard and sympathetic to the existing style and structure. We have utilised specialist trades such as wood panels, bespoke joiners, interior dressing, data and sound insulation.
Exterior renovation of the fascia of a listed building
Having started here with the intention of eradicating damp from the building, an initial test patch of render removal resulted in the discovery of a beautiful oak framed exterior wall.
We undertook the removal of the render and set about repairing the original brick panels and oak frame to its former glory.
In many cases we nowadays find that the cause of damp in these types of properties are from rendering, plastering and decoration that no longer allow these buildings to breathe.
Repair, renovation and maintenance work on Crondall Church
Anscombe and Sons Limited have been responsible for the ongoing repairs, maintenance and conservation of this building for 25 years.
Using lime mortar and putties we have been responsible for wall repairs over the years and have most recently repaired lead roofs and replaced cast and lead gutters.
With such a beautiful and historic building it is important that the fabric is being continually monitored and repaired to prevent any major problems in the future.
Restoration and renovation of the facade of a period town house
Anscombe and Sons Limited were asked to give the facade of this period town house a major facelift, returning it to its former glory.
The exterior paint had to be completely removed, and the brick work repointed.
Bespoke lead work to the parapet gutters and the reconstruction of the chimney finished the exterior off beautifully.
The end result was a very smart-looking town house, befitting its heritage and very happy clients.
Artists Studio & second floor conversion of existing outbuilding
This simple addition to a new outbuilding was constructed with 1/3rd below ground and tanked to prevent water ingress.
We provided a bespoke Iroko exterior staircase to gain access to the roof void in the outbuilding, making a perfect space for a small office/study.
The building was particularly difficult to access but with smaller vehicles and plant we were able to manage another successful project.
Part restoration/conversion of a listed building
Specialising in this type of work, it was a pleasure to convert such an unusual part of this building into a new usable space.
The restoration of the original brick kiln with reclaimed materials and lime mortar added vast interest to this otherwise unused space.
Steel tie bars were used to strengthen the structure and with some sensitive restoration work to the kiln walls provided a beautiful internal space.
The insertion of a new steel spiral staircase enabled access to another unused area of the house which was sensitively converted with new bespoke windows to provide a delightful library/study to the house.
Flint and brick boundary Wall to listed building, nr Farnham
Anscombe and Sons Limited undertook the re-build and restoration of this boundary wall near Farnham. We constructed a higher wall to give more privacy and to enhance the existing historic wall, incorporating brick buttresses and a bespoke solid oak entrance door.
Thatched cottage, nr Bentley
Anscombe and Sons Limited undertook a two storey extension and alterations to this picturesque thatched cottage Near Bentley, Hampshire.
The construction involved creating a beautiful vaulted ceiling to the kitchen including bespoke made oak trusses and joinery. This enabled the upstairs to be adapted to provide a grander stairwell and an extra bedroom and en suite.
Using new materials we were able to match the existing building perfectly, and with a new thatched roof to complete the build, it provided a seamless match between the old and new.
Eco-extension to large 19th century manor house
The construction of this unique eco-building was the design of Giles Gibbs and required the use of new technology to provide a well proportioned guest wing for the manor.
The foundation system was the first of its kind in this country and has been used since the sixties in Norway and Sweden. It uses a preformed polystyrene channel and slab system to provide an integral foundation and floor slab that you construct on a level site and basically fill with concrete. After final approval from Winchester Council this system was installed rapidly and provided a brilliant platform from which to complete this project.
Factory made super insulated wall panels were installed with a crane and the building was up and in the dry within 3 weeks.
The new wing was finished with cedar cladding and Nordan triple glazed windows and ventilated with a MVHR unit. The rain water is also saved in a rain trap to recycle the surface water for the garden.
Large scale flint and brick extension on a period cottage
Anscombe and Sons Limited have been involved with construction projects at this property for the past ten years. Originally a small pair of workers cottages, we have constructed 3 separate extensions and a detached barn building.
The latest work was to build a pair of two storey extensions to the rear of the property, providing an additional bedroom and en suite as well as extending the master bedroom, kitchen and living room.
We have previously constructed a beautiful walled garden to the property with arched door openings and brick panelling.
Extension of a large family home
Anscombe and Sons Limited undertook a large two storey extension and conversion of a double garage to provide adapted accommodation for wheel chair user.
Found in the centre of a wood, this relatively modern property was difficult to access but was in a unique location. Built on a sloping site, the extension was 3 storeys high and included a small store in the basement and a set of purpose made exterior stairs from the rear to reach the garden.
Whilst undertaking this project we repaired all windows and doors and converted other areas in the house for wheelchair user access.
Anscombe and Sons Limited has a reputation for completing its renovation projects to perfection.
